Connection Between Temperature and Vegetation Seasonality in the North

Larger version of this figure
This figure, based on 30 years of data (1982 to 2011), shows that vegetation seasonality is tightly coupled to temperature seasonality in the North.

Here, temperature seasonality is evaluated from meteorological station's thermometer data. Vegetation seasonality is evaluated from satellite measurements of vegetation greenness during the period in the year when the ground is thawed.

As temperature seasonality diminishes in the North, vegetation seasonality will diminish as well at a constant rate. This has happened more or less the past 30 years.

However, we also found that this relationship may not hold out in to the future.
